We travelled by plane from Hangzhou to Guilin. Guilin is a southern Chinese city known for its spectacular limestone karst hills. After travelling to the village of Quanjia Zhou, we hiked along the Li River and climbed up to Xianggong Mountain with a panoramic view of the karst landscapes along the Li River.
Then we travelled on to Yangshuo, where a (wet) bamboo raft trip on the Yulong River awaited us the next day. This was followed by a bicycle tour through the karst landscape of Yangshuo. On the recommendation of our local guide, we went to see a show in Yangshuo in the evening. It only starts after sunset, with the karst mountains providing a natural backdrop. By the way, the show was created by Zhang Yimou, who also directed the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
The following day, we travelled to Longsheng and walked up to our hotel on the mountain. We then hiked through the rice terraces to the viewing terrace. The next morning we descended from the mountain and were transferred to Guilin railway station.
